Representative Myra Crownover (R-Denton), Chair of the Subcommittee on Seismic Activity, announced today that the Subcommittee will hold a hearing on August 25th, 2014. During the hearing, the Subcommittee will hear testimony from the Railroad Commission of Texas and members of the public will be welcome to provide testimony as well.
"I know that many Texans are concerned about earthquakes and I feel strongly that the legislature should here directly from the people affected by seismic events" - said Crownover. "I also look forward to hearing from the Railroad Commission about the work they have undertaken to address the situation."
The Subcommittee on Seismic Activity held its first hearing on May 12th. At that hearing, the committee took testimony from the Mayors of Reno, and Azle, Texas about the effects of recent increases in seismic activity on their communities. The committee also heard from experts in geology, environmentalists, the oil and gas industry, and the Texas Railroad Commission.
The Subcommittee is chaired by Representative Crownover and includes Representative Phil King, Representative Terry Canales, and Representative Chris Paddie.
